Week of December 17th Sequence

1. Finish Seed Plant Booklet before you do any leaf lab or leaf collection project.

2. Begin the leaf lab.  Pick up the lab sheet at my desk and complete the 13 leaf samples.  First watch the powerpoint presentation by clicking this link In class activity powerpoint on Leaf Lab.  This will be your guide through the leaf lab and then your collection project. Once you've watched the power point click on this link to see the leaves you will be identifying: Leaf Lab Pictures.  Use the many resources located under the "Leaf Collection- In Class Portion" tab to help identifying each part of the leaf.  Complete the lab sheet and then begin the leaf collection project.

3. Begin constructing your leaf project.  Each student will need 5 blue pages to complete the information about each leaf (10 total back to back).  Follow this rubric rubric for the leaf collection project

  • Begin by writing out the common name, scientific name, and arrangement on a twig bubbles on the blue sheet.
  • Using the online resources begin to identify the shapes, tips, bases of each leaf
  • Identify the type of veining in each leaf.  Circle the type in the box and then sketch a picture of what that veining looks like on your leaf.
  • Complete this with all of your leaves
  • Cut each leaf out from it's pages you put them in this summer and tape them onto the corresponding blue sheet, do this for all ten leaves and then complete them by putting them into a page protector. THIS IS THE VERY LAST THING YOU DO!!!
  • Using the online resources, write a report on "Why Leaves Change Colors", follow the provided rubric.
  • Lastly make a cover for your collection.  Again, use the rubric.
  • Fill out the rubric/self reflection sheet and hand in.
CONGRATULATIONS OF COMPLETING THE 7TH GRADE LEAF COLLECTION!
